Financial Manager (Scale-Up)
Job Description:
Job Description
This is a remote position.
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time
Stage: Post-Seed / Early Scale-up
Location: Remote
Working Hours: UK Hours
About the Role
The client is a sustainable technology company transforming propulsion across Air, Sea, and Sport. With a protected IP portfolio of over 30 patents, they have already launched a UK D2C brand in the Sport sector and are in the process of globalising D2C sales.
They are now seeking their first in-house finance hire. This individual will be a strategic partner to the CEO & Finance Director, and will be responsible for building a global, world-class finance function from the ground up to support our trajectory toward the projected revenue target by 2030.
What will make you a great fit for this role?
We are looking for a commercially minded Finance Manager who is excited by the opportunity to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function within a growing, ambitious international business.
This is a hands-on role with plenty of scope to make an impact. You'll be responsible for managing the core finance function, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow, while also helping to improve and automate processes as the business scales.
You'll work closely with an experienced Finance Director, who will provide strategic and board-level guidance, giving you the opportunity to take real ownership of the finance function while developing your experience across a broader commercial and strategic remit.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has built a strong foundation in finance and is ready to take the next step in their career – gaining greater ownership, commercial exposure and experience within a fast-growing international business.
And this isn't just a finance role. You'll be joining a company making a genuine environmental impact – from reducing underwater noise for marine life to making aviation quieter and paddle sports more accessible.
What you'll do
Own the Day-to-Day Finance Function
- Take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, including AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations and month-end processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and maintain strong financial controls.
- Manage relationships with external accountants, tax advisers and other finance providers where required.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Prepare regular cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital.
- Provide financial insight to help the leadership team understand performance, risks and opportunities.
- Build financial models and "what-if" scenarios to support commercial and investment decisions.
Finance Transformation & Process Improvement
- Help transition the finance function from its current outsourced model towards a more efficient and scalable internal function.
- Identify opportunities to improve, automate and streamline finance processes as transaction volumes increase.
- Support the implementation and optimisation of finance systems, including the future move to a scalable ERP.
- Improve the integration between e-commerce, inventory, manufacturing and finance systems.
International Growth
- Support the financial management of the company's international operations and multi-entity structure.
- Assist with consolidation, foreign exchange and international tax compliance across the UK, US, EU and Japan.
- Support the implementation of automated tax solutions for North American sales.
Business Partnering
- Work closely with the founders and leadership team, providing commercially focused financial insight and guidance.
- Partner with the company's Technology and Product teams, helping them understand the financial implications of projects and investments without stifling innovation.
- Support the Finance Director with board reporting, strategic planning and financial governance.
Support Business Growth
- Provide financial analysis to support new products, markets and investment decisions.
- Support funding rounds and the preparation of financial information and investment materials.
- Help establish the financial processes, controls and reporting needed to support the company's transition from a lean startup to an international scale-up.
Requirements
- Qualified or nearly qualified: ACA, ACCA or CIMA, with relevant post-qualification experience preferred.
- Commercial finance experience: Experience within a product-based SME, scale-up or similarly fast-paced environment.
- Strong accounting foundation: Confident managing the day-to-day finance function, month-end, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow.
- International exposure: Experience working with multiple entities, currencies and/or international operations would be highly beneficial.
- Technical capability: Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls and audit requirements.
- Systems & automation: Comfortable working with finance systems, e-commerce platforms and technology, with an interest in improving and automating finance processes.
- Analytical mindset: Able to turn financial data into clear commercial insight and support decision-making.
- Remote Work: Fully set up to work remotely and within UK business hours.
Personal Attributes
- The "Builder" Mindset: You enjoy taking ownership, improving things and building processes rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
- Commercially Focused: You understand that finance should support the business and enable growth, not just report on what has already happened.
- Hands-On: You're happy getting into the detail when needed, while also being able to step back and look at the bigger picture.
- Growth Mindset: You're looking for an opportunity to broaden your experience and take on increasing responsibility as the company grows.
- Stakeholder Savvy: You're confident working with founders, senior leaders, technical teams and external advisers.
- Collaborative: You'll work closely with an experienced Finance Director who will provide strategic guidance, while giving you significant ownership of the day-to-day finance function.
